Casanovas Recruitment Solutions is excited to be representing a client within the public sector looking for someone to join their team as the Head of Safety and Environment.

The Role

Our client is looking for a confident individual with who will be responsible for setting the direction, strategy and objectives for health, safety, environment and sustainability. You will be engaging and influencing stakeholders to achieve continual improvement in health and safety performance and culture.

The successful candidate would also be responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan for the health, safety and environment department, considering all business needs.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Propose, agree and be responsible for department budgets
  • Lead and develop the strategic direction of HS&E management across a diverse and complex organisation.
  • Provide dynamic and effective leadership for the HS&E department.
  • Demonstrate and lead a process of continuous improvement within the department, ensuring that control measures and KPI’s are in place and achieved.
  • Take ownership and overall responsibility for all health, safety and environment accreditation and compliance requirements including ISO 14001, 45001 and relevant certification.
  • Provide oversight on the monitoring, collation and interpretation of performance data including close out of inspections and accident investigation reports, to provide effective operational experience feedback.
  • Deliver and translate the companies sustainability strategy in a mid-term 1 to 10 year vision, that tracks and measures progression of sustainability journey.
  • Applying performance management techniques to monitor delivery.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience of working within a highly regulated operational, or marine environment is essential.
  • You must have an understanding of sustainability and environmental requirements.
  • Prior experience of providing leadership and direction with an emphasis on team building through effective communications, collaboration, and mentoring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Confidence and authority to lead from the front, with a tracked record of successful delivery.
  • You must have the drive and energy to influence and inspire others.
  • You must be a Chartered member of a relevant professional body, e.g. IOSH/IEMA
  • Ideally hold a degree/qualified in a relevant subject, e.g. Environment, Sustainability, risk, occupational health and safety.
  • Hold a Full UK Driving license and be able to regularly travel to locations in England and Wales.
  • You must be able to problem solve and deliver sustainable solutions.
  • Be able to think Analytically.
